Founded in 1990 and based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Lumiére is a major distributor of independent films from Latin America. Lumière started as co-producer in 1996 with the “Pequeno Dicionário Amoroso”, directed by Sandra Werneck. In 2002 co-produced “Cidade de Deus” by Fernando Meirelles, film that was shown in the Official Selection of Festival de Cannes 2002.
Partner of VideoFilmes Lumière distributed its various productions as the Oscar nominated “Central do Brasil”, “Behind The Sun” by Walter Salles and debut the young director Karim Aïnouz with “Madame Satan”, selected by the Festival de Cannes 2002. Lumière released the film “Cidade Baixa”, a production of VideoFilmes, led by director Sergio Machado that was selected for the Festival de Cannes 2005.
In the last Film Festival in Cannes, Lumière made several acquisitions, among them are the big winner of the festival, the film “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days“.
